Our 5th Annual Backpack Drive

This year marked the 5th consecutive year that we have been able to raise 100 fully packed backpacks for students at our local school board.

It all began back in 2015, when we first established The Saheli Foundation, that we learnt our local school board gets approximately 1,000 students each year who come to school without a backpack.

Through no fault of their own, these children are not getting a fair chance at life from the get go. This will break anyone’s heart.

At The Saheli Foundation we truly believe every child born on this earth deserves an equal opportunity to be the best they can possibly be. So began our fund-raising for this program.

We invited our families and friends to consider sponsoring one backpack as they went shopping for their own children.

We are so grateful to everyone who made a contribution to our fund raiser.

We are so grateful to our local (South Surrey) Staples for teaming up with us and providing all necessary supplies and backpack at good prices. Rest is history.

Each year we all look forward to the beginning of September when our volunteers (young and old alike) come together to assemble each backpack and take the completed lot to the school board.

This year for the first time we set up a fund raiser on FB. It was awesome!

This year also special in that we got to deliver the backpacks directly to each schools. We got a chance to meet the principal and staff of each school.

It is was such an amazing time of connecting with each other and those who dedicate their lives to teaching children.

Most importantly knowing we were able to put a smile on a child’s face, give them a good start to their school year and give them a little trust in humanity is an irreplaceable feeling.
